I received a call today on my phone. the woman asked to speak with me by my name and said she was a nurse called to confirm my son (and said his name) surgery next week. My child is not sick or surgery. In addition, we have never been in the hospital or doctor to order the surgery. The nurse who gets angry when he discovered that something was really bad, had some control and let me know that the ACB patients should have surgery, had a Social Security number is similar to my son and two figures were incorporated and what had been a doctor at another hospital, but within the same network, the system automatically took all my children information. Had all our information, NNF, Dobs, everything. He also went on to say that your system is not set to cross reference data for others, such as name, date of birth, anything! Imagine if I had not called? What if you were my son's file with another patient on the operating table? Why not have some type of backup to say, "Hey wait! There is a problem ?!?!?" Does anyone know all the details of the HIPAA privacy laws and guidelines? I recommend the local defense of the hospital, but I wonder if I should take further steps and I'm no legal reason to do so?
